Hi
I've just joined today. I'm aged 16 and love doing ballet. I've passed my Imperial ballet exams up to grade 4, and now I' doing grade 5.
I know it's unusual for a boy to do ballet, but my Mum has always been keen for me to dance, and I guess it's spread to me. The problem is that I'm the only boy in the Dance School, and have to wear a leotard and tights the same as the girls. It's so embarrasing!!!
The Dance School provide a regulation uniform - black leotard and pink tights, which has to be worn at all times, and they don't see any problem. I also have to wear the same for the exams. Mum thinks it's great fun and loves talking to the other mums in the changing room. They all offer me a lot of encouragement. Is it any wonder there are no other boys in the School!!
I'm now starting to do pointe work, which I don't think is for boys. Some of the movements are so effeminate, that I go bright red.
Can anybody please help?? Should I be giving it up?? I'm now the oldest in the class.
Thanks
Robert
