This has to be my favourite series of all time. Anne of Green Gables just makes me giddy and girlish. I liken Gilbert Blythe to Mr. Darcy in romantic comparison. While, Blythe is kind and sweet and generous and Darcy cold and sarcastic, both of them have that inexplicable quality that makes a male lead desirable.

For those of you who don't know the story, I'll give a brief introduction.

Siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert ask to have a boy sent to them from an orphanage to help Matthew on their farm, Green Gables, but instead of a boy, they recieve a redheaded, smart mouthed, bright girl named Anne Shirley. The series is about Anne and her antics in Avonlea (a fictional town in Prince Edward Island, Canada). Gilbert Blythe is a character Anne meets in school in the first book and carries on throughout the 7 novels about Anne. It's a GREAT story and honestly, I can't imagine a more romantic story.

You all should pick it up, Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

I've seen the play, it's the longest running onstage production in Canada, spanning almost 30 years now I think. I've also seen the movies with Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie (sigh), it's a perfectly inspiring story.
