Gap Years
I know everyone takes them for different reasons, but from your experiences, would you say that they're worth it?

not worth it unless you're doing something with your life that will be adequately aided by your gap year

I think I'd like to do it, but I'm not sure how practical it would be.

Through very strange circumstances, I've found myself on a gap year this year. It's a welcome break, but not anything like a planned gap year.

Be careful. Uni's frown upon "wasted" gap years.

My gap year was the purest example of a gap year I've ever heard of, because it was exactly that: a gap. Blank. Empty. You could skip over it and not miss it. It inspired hatred for Deal Or No Deal and the invention of a tool designed to take the work out of masturbation. Yes. Very, very productive.

yeah i think they're a great idea. work out what you want to do. i think sometimes its hard to be sure until you're out in the world without the boundries or safety net of school. i'd take one for sure. i suppose if you know exactly what you want form ife theres no point though.

I don't think I am going to take one. It is kinda stupid because then when the year is over you have to do a big change and go back to school. When you could have forgotten a lot of stuff or just don't feel like you wanna go back. If you go back right after school ended and don't take gap year you don't have to pick what you are doing until the second (I think it is that year) year so you have that year to find out what you want to do still.

i don't agree with the whole 'you'll forget everything' theory because for university, very little of what you did at A level is relevant; it's more like you're learning to learn. personally i'd like to take a gap year, but i'm not sure what i'd do; i haven't a clue what i want to do with my life, so i'm sort of ploughing on ahead through A levels with subjects i like and i'm hoping it's all going to come clear sometime soon. (the sooner the better...) i'd like more experience of the world though, i want to travel; and after college seems like a good time to do it, to learn more about myself before i go off and do something that'll affect the rest of my life.
