Default Motivation.

My mocks are coming up in a week or so's time and a lot of what I'm planning to do depends on what grades I get in these exams (mostly Chemistry, Biology and Physics). So even though these are really important to me and even though I'm terrified of failing and/or under-achieving I just can not seem to get moving and do some revision. I can actually sit down with my work around me, stare at it for about 10 minutes and decide it's no use and go back to the computer or whatever else I was doing beforehand.
And it's not just revision I'm having a problem with, every time I get homework without fail I leave it until the last minute. It's always a 10 minutes before bed or on the bus job.

So tell me, how do you/did you motivate yourself to do your schoolwork, and do you feel it helped a lot?

I realised that if I continue ignoring advice from people who knew what the fuck they were talking about i'd get screwed. And besides, I wasn't losing much.

I had/have the same problem!
When i was doing my GCSE's i just couldnt make myself revise and always found something better to do... i managed to mess up some of my exams ended up with an F in art when i was predicted a B, just because i cba to make myself do work!!

Homeworks still a massive issue for me All i can say is it might help to do it in small chunks, giving yourself breaks/rewards for doing it.

^ Doing your work in small portions at a time, then taking a break is pretty solid advice. Most importantly, remind yourself how important it is and see if it gives you any motivation to complete it.

Yeah. I'm just bone idle really, my teachers told me to do with work and break/reward thing too though.
I might just tell my mum/dad, make them sit me down and watch me untill I do all the work needed. Then I have no escape.

Cheers.

i always plan days in advance when i'm going to do these kind of assignments. like today. I'm goign to the computer lab to finish a website I'm making that is due in a week. I want to get it done NOW, so I don't have to worry about it. I've been planning on going to the computer lab today for about a week now.

if you give yourself goals like that, or write it in a planner that you will do it then, its harder to skip it.

Bus job lmaooo, you know what I meant!

But yeah, I never actually get down a grade, I'm just really lucky in the sense that I can cram everything into my head the same morning of an exam and still get my grade. Example, I did my first maths modular without revising and got one mark above an A, it's my target and everything but my teacher was real dissapointed in me and said I could have done much better. The next modular I did a few months ago I was tutoring a friend of mine, and basically went through everything with him which I guess was like revising, and got one mark off full marks.

So yes. Now that I know I can get A* I want to aim for it, I just can not moveeee. I do not deserve to have brain cells.

When I was doing my GCSEs I was so shit at motivating myself, I got way less than I should have. I still got 8 though with zero revision and like 20% attendence.. I was just lucky I guess. Last year I was the same.. I dropped out of college before christmas because I was so behind and just couldn't be arsed any more. Thiiis year though, Idunno what changed. I think it's cos I'm actually interested in my subjects.. but I kinda LIKE doing my homework and all lol. THat wasn't helpful at all I know but maybe you'll be the same next year.

i think there's a lot to be said for doing it all last minute. that's what i've done so far on my uni course and i've got firsts for every essay. some people just work well under pressure do you think you'd really do a lot better if you did it all way ahead of time?

Yeah I think I'll be a lot better next year in college when I'm doing my chosen subjects. They're all actually subjects I'm doing now :/ but I think getting treated more like an adult and a bit more of a challenge with my work will do me good. I only have to get B's to do them aswell, but I'd like to get A/A*'s just to rub it in peoples noses because I am a nice person and get along with everybody.

Y'know, you could be right. The thing is I've never really tried, so I guess if I do now I've got nothing to lose. When I revised with a friend it was only a few days before so. :/

I'll probably end up last minute this time round anyway, but I know I'll try a lot harder with the real thing. A mixture of last minute and long-term revision should do me some good I'm hoping.
