Default Grand Theft Auto

Thought this could be an interesting thread, I've posted it on a few other forums, but got stupid posts (Mostly because they are kids pretending to be cool).

I'm sure many of you will know about the Grand Theft Auto series of games, and there was a new one realsed last Tuesday (GTA IV).

A lot of people (Including Hillary Clinton) are trying to get the game banned (Thats how I read it).

Do you blame Rockstar for the teen crime around today, or is it more the parents? The game is rated 18 (Not sure what it is in the US, Mature or something?).

What age where you when you where allowed to watch 12, 15 and 18 rated films / play games.

For me I was allowed to when I was a year before, however my dad didn't mind me watching 18's when I was 15, but I saw that as a treat as it wasn't everyday.

I dont believe there is that much of a difference of age between 17 and 18 (Mature wise) (Cant really comment on the other ages for me >.>).

I was having dinner with my family around easter time, my sister had a friend round (Both 12 at the time), I was talking to my step dad and mum about the Saw films as I had watched them during the week, and my sisters friend had seen Saw 4. There where parts in there that I couldn't watch, and I know that its not real. Scares me that someone that age watches films like that.

I've kinda gone off topic about GTA, but its all linked.

What are your thoughts about this? I expect lots of different thoughts :D

I don't think it should be banned at all, I don't think all the crimes nowadays are linked to the game, pretty pathetic excuse.

Anywayy my nephew' got the GTA's and the new one and he's only 4 lol

He doesn't play on any games for his own age and he isn't aggressive/naughty whatever, he gets told whats right/wrong etc.

And my lil sis plays it and she's 9. Films on the other hand though, they wouldn't be allowed to watch films that wasn't suitable for them.

My 8 year old bro plays GTA. I think it's bollocks that people link games to violence.

Although they do with music and some music does make me aggressive. haha

My brother completed this on Friday/Saturday(?), seriously, the kid needs to get out more.

I wasn't allowed to watch films that were a 15 or above when I was younger until I was about 13, then my parents didn't mind much (unless they'd seen it themselves and thought it was awful) but I don't watch them that often anyway because I'm shit scared hahah.

They've never been bothered about the ratings on games though, my brother's (14 now) been playing the GTA games and all the rest of them since he was tiny.

I don't think that violence and all the rest of it is linked to movies or games, unless you're seriously mentally unstable I don't see how they can effect you in such a way.

I forgot to mention, that I was allowed to watch some 18's before I was 18, the first Die Hards, as they where made ages ago, and for example Bad Boys 2 has more swearing / blood in than Die Hard which was a 18 at the time.

I personally think 4 years old is too young to be on games consoles...maybe not DS's and Game Boys as they are different.

And Dave, I'm guessing thats because your 18 and know the difference between right and wrong .

Its kinda linked, but when I'm driving if when I've got Slipknot in my CD player (Which I do at the moment) I get pissed of real quickly, someone gets the tinyist bit too close and I slow right down to piss them off, however, if I'm listening to the radio or Cascada (Only album I own that isn't metal/rock >.>) I drive completely differently.

I watched Basic Instinct and Die Hard 2 when I was 10, didn't affect me then either.

It's not the parents fault, it's the bloody people who campaign against violent games. They brainwash parents.

I haven't completed San Andreas yet!

The films have ratings for a reason, but I think it's always going to be 'cool' to a certain extent to watch them purely because your not meant to.

I started watching (actually watching, not just being in the same room as) 15's when I was about 11ish(?) just because before them films like that didn't really interest me. I'll watch 18's now if I want to, but it's because I actually want to see them, not just to be defiant. I rarely watch them anyway.

People can't throw the blame onto videogames all the time though, if a person is easily influenced then it could cause them to do things because of the game, but it's not that common. The more people campaign to ban games, the more they'll be blamed for it. I think?
