What will stop you using plastic bags?
British Retailer Marks and Spencer will begin charging its customers 5p for plastic carrier bags in a bid to reduce their demand. Will this move help protect the environment?

Oh I though the UK already had this law. We have it here and it has made a huge difference. And to be honest you don't even notice it.

We have a bag full of plastic bags in the kitchen anyway that we alwaiiz reuse so if my mom did decide to be a cheap skate and not pay the 5p she could just take the ones we have :]

We've had this in Marks and Spencer in NI for a while now, aswell as the general "bag tax" in Ireland. Generally, its made a big difference and as Naomi says, you really don't notice it so much.

This has been a long time coming at Marks, it was definately in the pipeline when I started. Most of the customers supported the idea, infact I didn't come across one that didn't, this is another one of Marks' plan A ideas.

well both. The places prefer you take plastic (cause its cheaper for them), but you can get paper. Which is another problem in itself.
