It pisses me off when my Mom tries to get me to follow in her footsteps, she doesn't come right out and say it, she says it in a way which makes you read between the lines which is worse ;[

my mum and dad have no career paths for me to follow; not that they don't work but it is hardly a career spec since my dads living in Australia...

My parents come from the farming community. Farming is not a viable source of income for anyone unless they were super rich before the FMD goverment spread (the first one that was caused by them)

I don't think i'd be suited to driving a lorry. I can't even drive, so I don't think i'd be following my dad.
Computers are more my thing, and only myself in the house can operate one.

Mum was in Law before she had kids, then went to retail (I wont be going to retail however). Dad is a painter and decorator, but I really cant see myself doing that, long hours, away from home a lot. Step dad programs mobile phones and makes sure they work with different networks etc, that interests me a little, although something computer based, or in the media, I would still love to be a news reporter.

no way. Kids are going to college a lot more these days than in my parents generation. My mom didn't go to college, and both my parents strongly encouraged college.
I wouldn't want my kids doing what I'm doing either. I want them to decide.

If my kids were as cool as I am, of course they would follow in my footsteps. Purely because I have the most awesome job description in the world... "DNA Analyser Designer (and office molestee)".
