If the woman had signed up willing to take risks they should be treated the same as men

Male, Female dose it matter when your getting shot at. If they want to jump into the front line than throw them in

This thread reminded me of the South Park movie where they had all the blacks go in the frontline to use a shield. :D

If they're skilled enough then sure why not. 'Tis 2007 afterall. By now we shouldn't be restricting stuff like that. Same goes for pretty much every other career.

nahh.
remember a few years back when this discussion arose because these tests had been carried out on the stamina and strength of some soliders? they had to carry a certain weight of equipment and run a certain distance and none of the women could do it. women are far, far more likely to be injured during combat and only a tiny minority are up to the same fitness level as the average male soldier. I'd see that as a liability.

and ofc. there's that instinct for chivalry men have...

I used to think they should, equal rights and all that jazz. But a couple of years ago when my cousin joined the army she said one of the main reasons why women aren't allowed on the front line is that the guys would be trying to protect the women, instead of putting 110% of their focus on actual conflict. Makes sense to me.

I thought the main reason was that they were more likely to be sexually abused if captured? :-\

I don't think it's SMART, but they should be allowed. I mean obviously men can handle more physically in general, that's a given. So yah I think they should be allowed to cause it's fucking 2007 like Matty said, freedom to do what you want. They wanna get shot at then they should be allowed to do it.

Mick raises good point

but they'd put their fellow soldiers at an even bigger risk.

there are plenty of other things we can do in the forces.

That's true but I suppose if their willing to take that risk then why not let them.

because the standards have to be brought down to accommodate them.

If they're good at what they do and are willing to put themselves in danger then let them. If they're not allowed I don't really care though.

Surely if they were tested to show they were capable of being at the same standard as a man, then they could be allowed on the front line.

I don't know much about army procedure; however, I assume there is some type of testing/training?

No.

It messes up the mechanics of the team, for the reasons above. Thats not to doubt the ability of women, but there are lots of things a woman can do quite well in the armed forces, bayonet work isnt one of them. Or learning from recent events, navigation work.......

Fourteen male sailors and one female sailor apprehended for venturing into
Iranian waters.

Mmm, doesn't take a genius to work out who was reading the map.

I don't think so.think about the guys you know. most guys will go to great lengths to impress women. that's a bad idea when you're being shot at. women are a distraction. I'm not anti women or anything (that would be kinda stupid) women also arent' built for combat

It's not really a case of their lookout, they're out there serving and protecting YOUR lookout, show some respect.
