Even if religeon is disproven, the religeous nuts will then claim that god made those particles.

Did you see some Indian girl killed herself because she was worried it would be the end of the world?

It didn't collide.
They simply pushed the parcials one direction around the circle. over the next few months they will speed them up, then add to the other direction.
It won't reach "full power"(as in the sort of power which is predicted could do damage) untill late next year.
By then all media coverage will be long dead, so if something does happen you wont even get a warning

Destroying us all to figure out where we come from?
Yes, i see how this risk is worth it.

I completely agree with Kirsty. I'm going to apply a quote by Socrates because I think it is applicable: 'the unexamined life is not worth living.' What is the point in living if we do not strive to understand the world around us? Followers of a religion may take things at face value and suffer no consequences but they will never understand the world around themselves because doctrine has indoctrinated to do so but for those willing to further our thinking accept that there is risks and dismiss them for the advancement of humanity.
The risk is tiny anyway, you have a better chance of winning the lottery, or Michelle managing to type a coherent and grammatical sentence.

If there were any significant risk then they wouldn't go ahead with the experiment. They have the knowledge, not you, therefore they know the risk, not you. You're going on what you've been told by the media. These people are experts in their respective fields. I'm sure they know what they're doing.

The media will obviously try and make it more dangerous and terrifying than it actually sounds, that's how they rope suckers in to buy newspapers and magazines etc, that's how I roped everyone into read this thread.

I make it a point not to read too much into anything the media says, i knew about this project before it was mentioned in the media. I've read a lot into it, personally i don't think it will happen and i know the chances are very small.
I just don't think they should be allowed to take that risk, if they want to blow themselves up, then fine, not the rest of us. And this is a step into the unknown, they don't, or even couldn't know 100% what is going to happen.

Thankfully, you're not the one who gets to make the decisions in the science world. If you were, we'd still be in the dark ages.

Because every scientific breakthrough in the world in the last 200 years involved a machines of this magnitude, abet a small chance of disaster? then yes, then we would still be in the dark ages.

Every scientific breakthrough has risks associated with it. When it's on a global scale, people begin to worry and suddenly decide it's not such a good idea because it will invariably affect them, yet they are more than happy to take full advantage of breakthroughs in science when it doesn't. If this is a success, it will be a huge leap forward in particle physics which has already proved to be fundemental and important in technology and medicine, among other things.

I heard Stephen Hawking placed a $100 bet on the Higgs Boson particle not being found.

It's the most elusive particle in the universe, there is always the chance of it not being found. If it's not, it will lead to new theories being made and old theories being rethinked, and perhaps blow the chances of the Super Large Hadron Collider being built.

I understand that either way it's a neccesary experiment. I just thought I'd bring up a fun fact.
Personally I hope it's not found. It'd be no fun for the universe to suddenly make sense.
Rethought* not rethinked.

The universe won't suddenly make any sense. If the Higgs Boson particle is found, it would just be scraping the surface of the theory of everything. If the Large Super Hadron Collider is built and dark matter is found, things will start to fall into place.
Well spotted, do you want a chocolate medal?
