opinion on abortion
Are you for or against? and why?
Do you think the father has a REAL say when it comes to keeping/terminating an unexpected pregnancy?

I am for abortion, but not to be used in frequency as a form of birth control.
I do feel the father has a say, because it is a two way street in making a baby and it's just as much his as it is her's..But then again with that being said, I do feel at the end of the day the mother has the overall say in the matter with it being her body and physical well being and all.

I never know how I fully feel about Abortion. Last year I had to write a 30,000ish word essay on it, and that made alot of things clearer to me.
Someone I know just slipped up taking the pill, and is now 6 weeks pregnant. She's 16 and feels that the baby's father is far too immature to start a family, and can barely look after himself - let alone her and a child. Mainly because it's the easy way out, she's going to get an abortion next month.
I don't think abortion should ever be used regularly, as a birth control. It can seriously mess with you emotionally and pysically. My brother's friend had an abortion when she was younger and developed polycystic ovary syndrome afterwards, which meant she could only concieve after a couple of years of IVF. She honestly thought she'd never be able to have children and thought that having that abortion had messed up the rest of her life.
I do think that the 24 week timespan allowed for an abortion to take place is far too long - it's over halfway through a pregnancy. Ever seen a 24 week old foetus? It is a baby, capable of living. At least 70%-80% of babies in their 23rd or 24th week of development can survive, and with science developing rapidly that rate is only likely to rise, surely? In places like France and Germany, unless their laws have changed since I've read about it, they only permit abortions up to the 10-12th weeks of pregnancy unless the pregnancy would affect the health of the mother so greatly that an abortion is needed. I don't think a child shouldn't be brought into the world 'unwanted' or resented for 'messing up someones life' but I don't think it should get to that stage. More should be done to improve the sex education system and availability of contraception. Sure it's fine thinking 'Oh i'll be okay if he pulls out' or 'I can just get the morning after pill' but neither of those are gauranteed to work. People are far too unaware of what the consequences can do to them and far too quick to shrug the blame, or plainly just too lazy.
I think if the pregancy happens in a stable relationship then the father should have a certain say in the matter, because couples disagreeing on matters like abortions can fuck up relationships. Saying that, at the end of the day, athough it is just as much his child as it's hers, she is the pregnant one and needs support.
But, I don't think there's any right or wrongs, it's a grey area and probably always will be. If the mother doesn't think she's physically or mentally capable of having a child, then she just needs to live with that.

I could never have an abortion, and like the others, agree that its sometimes used as "birth control". However, I'm pro-choice. The minute its illegalized, you'll get unsafe, done at home abortions. There are people that will do it regardless of the law. Its a shame really. Its either the fetus dies, or the ignorant mother gets hurt.

Tbh I have a bit of an outlandish view on abortions. I just don't think it's a moral problem at all, get rid of it if you dont want it, it's fine by me. People make too much of a fuss over death in general in my opinion. But especialy in the case of abortions people argue that as the foetus is too young to do anything about the abortion, then its unfair on them. But what about the fact they didnt have a choice to be brought to life in the first place?

I don't see what's so wrong with abortion. I also hate how religious people attack it. What about all the people religious zealots have killed in the name of God?

This is pretty much it here. I hate it when girls are careless get pregnant and then have the whole 'oh well ill just have to have another abortion' attitude. its disgusting. if you have no intention of keeping a child, dont create one. Other then that, accidents do happen and if the people involved arnt ready for the responsibilities involved with having a child, then termination may just be the best option for them.

30,000 words is seriously 100 pages double spaced. That is a lot. No doubt it was large, but 100 pages?

half, half im against because it is wronge to take a life, i am for because i believe that a fotus would get its soul when it gets to the blood-linning, and for in the case of rape.
fathers should get a say but not as much as the woman, fathers may influance the mother but it should be the mother choice at the end of the day

It SHOULD be a 50-50 decision, but as women carry the baby they will always have the power to do whatever the fuck they want.

This is one of those subjects that really annoys me, cos it's one of those things that nobody really has any idea what they'd do unless it happened. You might think you know, but when you're pregnant you have a bunch of hormones you don't usually have and everythings different. Every situation is different so you can't just say it's 'right' or it's 'wrong'.
It's a huge and heart breaking descision for any woman to make, and it's nobody elses business to judge what she chooses to do.

I do support a woman's choice to abort or not. I believe that she should speak with her husband/boyfriend about it, but ulitmatly, she has the say.

The amount of women that say they would never have an abortion doesn't correlate with the amount of women that do. I guess what that says is that you can't really judge until your in that situation.
Also, I hate when people say 'not to be used as a form of birth control' that's excatly what it is no matter how many times they are preformed. I am pro-choice and I believe the decision lies with the woman involved, it is afterall her body.

I have had 2 friend's that have both had abortion's which I have supported through out that time.
But I can't stand girl's that think it's ok to be careless and not use any protection because they know they could have a termination as last resort.
Do they not realise, that using no protection does not just mean pregnancy, but STD's too.

that's a bit of a generalisation. Everyone that has an unwanted pregnancy isn't irresponsable. Protection can go wrong.
