TB
What affect would not having the TB jab have on you in the long run?

Your system wouldnt be immune to it. I've not had my TB jab, they stopped doing it this year in schools cause its on the decreases, doctors wouldnt do it for me neither. Thing is, theyre not doing it because its on the decrease, which is obviously gonna make it go on the increase isn't it? If people arent becoming immune from it, people will get it, spread it to more who aren't immune then there'll be an epidemic. Stupid really.

It's not stupid at all. Britain isn't a third world country. In developing countries, such as in parts of Asia or Africa, the rate and spread of Tuberculosis is high because there is no proper health system or combative measures which prevent people contracting Tuberculosis in the first place. We have an advanced health system (in comparison to other countries) and not only is the likelihood of contracting TB very small, but the treatment for it is significantly better than it was a few years ago. To treat Tuberculosis usually requires an intensive and rather lengthy course of antibiotics but in recent years the length of treatment has been cut by a few months.
As you said, especially in Britain, the rate and spread of Tuberculosis is decreasing but that doesn't neccessarily mean it's on the increase. If something is decreasing then it's decreasing. You're argument about people not being immune to it is pretty much defunct because the chances of them contracting Tuberculosis is almost zero, and the unlucky ones who do can be treated.

Is TB a bloodborne pathogen? I really have no idea how you can get it. I just know I have to be tested every year because I'm an education student, and they don't want me hurting the kiddies.

No, it is not a bloodborne pathogen. It is transmitted via the medium of coughing or sneezing. It travels through the air from one person to another and once the bacteria is breathed in it will attack your lungs and then slowly spread out and attack the other major organs in your body.

yikes. I knew it was no good. I wonder how long symptoms take to develop. Like ones where you know its not just a common cold with sniffling and coughing. I guess if it was months, etc, you could spread it without knowing. Probably is that because otherwise I wouldn't need to do a skin test to see if I have TB.. I'd probably already know. ha, I really know nothing about this disease.

Well, the thing about Tuberculosis is that you don't have any symptoms and you do not feel sick until the bacterial strain begins to take hold of you which could be at any moment in the future, usually taking up to 12 weeks and until the strain takes hold, the bacteria cannot be spread. I think you'd know it isn't just a common cold when you are hit by a vast combination of symptoms such as chronic coughing, fatigue, fever and weight loss. Again, the problem with this is that doctors will diagnose you as just having the flu if you state those symptoms, and that is why it is so difficult to diagnose.

jk, i like doctors really.

There was something on the news the other week that 30 people at a secondry school in Birmingham all tested positive for TB.
You don't know whats going around nowadays.
