The Gig Thread
There must be some gig goers here. I like talking about gigs. So this a thread for that.
Ones you've been to or are going to soon.
My upcoming gigs:
Oct 7th: Lacuna Coil
Nov 7th: Opeth
Nov 11th: Mororhead
Nov 12th: Muse
Nov 30th: Tool
Dec 11th: Iron Maiden
Not a bad little winter of gigging ahead for me. Hopefully squeeze some local bands in there too.

Just got back from Lacuna Coil. They were pretty good. Not an amazing show, as you'd expect, but still. Cristina sounded better than she did when I saw them at Download and generally it was a fun night.
Oh, and she was fucking smoking hot.

Bands I need to see but for various reasons mostly involving age restrictions will not see for about three years by which point the bands will have split up:
- Queen Adreena
- on account of their being one of my favouritest bands evar and miss garside being slightly unhinged
- Die So Fluid
- on account of their every track being awesome and them seeming like they would probably do good shows
- Mindless Self Indulgence
- on account of consistent reports of them doing outrageous shows
- Birthday Massacre
- Bossk
- for being the only post rock band I've heard and enjoyed 100% of their work [STOP! grammar time]
- Slipknot
- would go with friends and mosh ridiculously and probably get broken ribs
- System of a Down
- cause they sound like they'd be pretty fun
- Placebo?
- Manu Chao
- cause on the very rare occasion i go to a gig, it's usually heavy. mr chao is not heavy, but IS awesome.

I'm so tired. Got back from Motorhead a little while ago, and last night I saw Opeth. In an attempt to get this thread a bit more active (because live music rocks), I'll copy my thoughts on both from my MySpace blog:
Opeth
Wow. What an absolutely blinding gig is all I can say. They were fantastic at Download, but this was a step up in quality and a half. Probably a bit to do with the fact I wasn't utterly shattered after seeing 50 other bands before them, but y'know. Haha.
The setlist was not only twice as long as at Download (they played for 90 odd minutes with about...10 songs?) but also had a much better song selection I think. They covered basically all of the albums, including 'Under The Weeping Moon' from 'Orchid'. I was hoping for anytrack off Orchid and I was lucky enough to get my favourite. Result!
Unlike at Download also was the added bonus of no sound troubles whatsoever. I'm still amazed at how well he can do the shouting/growling/screaming/whatever-you-want-to-call-them type of vocals so well. It was much more impressive than it was at Download simply because of the song selection. Most of them were songs where it switched from clean to dirty and back again very quickly, and it was all seamless. 'Blackwater Park' especially.
I'm trying to think of my favourite moment, and it's very hard. Partly because I've just got back from Motorhead (going to do an entry on them as soon as I submit this) but also because there were so many.
I loved it when 'Windowpane' started up and there was a huge cheer, and everyone just sang all for the next 8 minutes. It was quite magical. I was hoping they'd play 'Death Whispered A Lullaby', but alas, they did not. =(
I think overall though my favourite song had to be 'Blackwater Park' just because it was 13 minutes of pure INSANITY. Man my ribs took a beating and a half during that time, but it was fucking awesome. The contrast of that mental moshing to the swaying to 'Windowpane' is really quite amazing. Haha.
Well worth the trip to Manchester (which I still say is the best city in the world - my night didn't end after the gig by any means, haha) and the rather bumped up prices of tickets on Ebay. One of the best gig experiences of my life.
Oh, and the support act Paradise Lost fucking rocked. I was shattered from moshing so much before they had even left the stage. Haha.
Motorhead
After last night's amazing Opeth gig, this was quite a step down in quality. I must say I'm not a huge Motorhead fan by any stretch of the imagination. I mean, I do like them, but they're just so-so in my books. It was a cheap ticket so I thought why not?
It wasn't bad as such, just not overly impressive. I expected two things from this gig - one rough ass crowd and for it to be very loud.
Correct on both points. I like to think that I can handle myself extremely well in the pit, but boy, there were times I was tempted to take a few steps back tonight. Haha. I didn't - but that was only because the most violent of moshing bursts had died down quickly. I am in a lot of pain right now, I can tell you. Haha. I'm not complaining though, because I'd be annoyed if it wasn't like that. Motorhead are meant to be a loud and in-your-face metal experience. That's exactly what it was. I love nothing more than a good mosh.
The setlist was alright, it was hard to hear Lemmy at times (mainly because everything else was so fucking loud ahah) and I don't know their material well enough to really name half of what I heard. All their big hits were played ('Ace of Spades' etc) and yeah. It was alright.
Looking at it musically, it was pretty shit. As a night out it was good fun. I think my tiredness from Opeth had a little bit to do with me not being totally into it, but on my best day I couldn't consider their performance anything more than average.
So, worth the cheap ticket just to get rather drunk and go fucking mental in the mosh pit. The music was loud and hard, that's all I really required tonight. Haha.
--
Muse tomorrow. I'm actually expecting great musical quality from them.

Thankfully, Muse were as I expected. Again from my blog:
Muse
Ok, now I'm really aching. Haha. Memories of how I felt after Download Festival flooding back! >.<
But it was worth it. My excitement for this gig wasn't too high as I was at the arena tonight I must admit. The absolutely fucking AWFUL ticket handling (they came yesterday, 24hrs before the gig =|) had caused me a lot of stress and I was worried that the setlist would be dominated by too much new (and rather rubbish) material.
Luckily, that wasn't really the case. Yes, a few of the new songs bored me to death (I did give them a chance, I really did, but man they're just dull fullstop), but then they played the old stuff and suddenly I didn't give a damn.
THANKFULLY, they played 'Citizen Erased'. That alone was enough to make me happy. I had heard they haven't been playing it at every show, so when that first riff kicked in boy did I explode. Haha. It's their best song by miles and those 7 minutes were fan-fucking-tastic. It was so obvious then why I liked Muse so much, the progressive sound and rawness of that song is amazing.
Likewise with stuff like 'Bliss' (VERY trippy, I'm glad CIA isn't a huge arena), 'Hysteria' (oh man, mad moshing, haha, those riffs sound so good live) and 'Plug In Baby' (which was probably even more insane than Hysteria).
'Time Is Running Out' was also a highlight, as even though it's one of their most overrated songs, it was the one that got me into Muse, so going nuts to it was very nostalgic of 2003. Haha. Good times connected to that song.
On the new songs front I must admit 'Knights of Cyndonia' was pretty fun. Everyone was throwing their fist into the air and as soon as the song properly kicked on everyone went nuts - it's quite hard not to enjoy it after that. Haha. Good way to start.
Oh, and 'Supermassive Blackhole' was absolutely awful live. Anyone who says it improves is a fat ass liar. It's still their worst song by absolute miles, and I couldn't wait for them to finish it.
I've got to say also, that I wasn't expecting a muse crowd to be all that crazy, but down the front in the pit was a damn fun place to be. Muse songs are perfect for some insane moments, and that's what I got. Damn good fun. On 'Citizen Erased' especially during the guitar solo, hugeee rush!
Yes, I wish I had seen them two years ago when all the new crap would be off the setlist and I had got more of the OOS material, but with that aside it really was a damn good gig. I was expecting them to blow me away and when they played the right stuff, they did.

Damnit man, I didn't see you. I was downstairs making food after getting back when you messaged me last night. It was amazing, absolutely amazing. Best gig I've been to in ages.
I'll give my own little review of the Muse gig, though there's not much to add to what Matty said:
First of all, the support. Awful. Absolutely, disgustingly, awful. If anybody on this forum happens to like a band called The Noisettes, please shoot yourself immediately.
Muse, on the other hand: Spectacular. Even if the music was crap (which it wasn't, by any stretch of the imagination), I think the stage probably would have had me in a state of disbelief all night. It was beautiful. Anyway, the music...incredible. Though I don't mind the new album, I must admit I was rather glad when they started playing some of the typical Muse anthems. Like Matty, I went there clinging to an unlikely possibility of Citizen Erased being played. We got our wish. It was...to be quite blunt, fucking amazing. Plug-in Baby was awesome. Bliss was incredible. Hysteria, Time Is Running Out, etc...all absolutely mad when heard live. Knights of Cydonia was excellent too.
Stockholm Syndrome was also incredible, and I don't honestly think Supermassive Black Hole was as bad as Matty makes it out to be . Starlight was pretty cool too, everybody clapping along to it sort of added something for me. The atmosphere through the entire gig was amazing (except with the Twatettes were on...because they sucked). I thought it quite odd that they ended with Take A Bow again, I'd have far preferred it if they'd ended with one of the songs from the previous albums...Feeling Good perhaps? That's one song missing from the setlist that was played at Reading, and it was class there. Personally I wouldn't have ended with it, but I'd have removed Take A Bow from the setlist and rearranged it a bit...I'd like to see both Stockholm Syndrome and New Born as a finale, that'd rock.
Besides a few tiny details listed above (also including some twat who threw beer over the crowd, though, i was absolutely boiling so i didn't mind too much at the time)...it was an amazing night. I can't wait to see Muse again, I'm just hoping their next album will be better than Black Holes And Revelations. Although I like the album, it doesn't really live up to the standard of their previous records.

They should end the show with Plug In Baby. It's the best possible end to the set.
Take A Bow I really hate. I went away kinda bummed it was the last song they played.
