^^ dave is right.
we do say "quarter AFTER three" and "quarter TO 5"
but never half past anything. its always 4:30, or 7:30. Half 7 sounds really weird.

I say noon rather than midday.. noon is 2 letters shorter and takes less time to say :D

I don't even stretch my vocabulary to noon/midday. It's twelve, and if they ask which twelve it's "you know, twelve in the day time, afternoon twelve" which makes no sense what so ever as it isn't afternoon at all.
I talk thick.
Qurter after sounds amazingly wrong, though. :/

Americans say quarter past or a quarter to, we don't say half seven, that's just dead weird. But we do say half past seven, now that makes sense.
Aand, no one says midday here. =) Most people say noon, midnight, etc but I just simply say 12AM or PM.
I dunno why everyone is bashing on Americans. :/ The country may be bad, doesn't mean the people are helpless and dumb either.
