I don't think you can say they've butchered the word. Love is different for everybody. What they feel is what they believe is love. It might not be til later on in life that they realise it wasn't as strong as their current relationship or whateva.

There isn't an age limit. And I don't think teens are stupid for being in love either.
There's just a time in your life when you meet the right person, and you realise that you have fallen in love. It doesn't really matter whether you're 12 or 35, it happens when it happens and some people might never even experience it I guess.
There can be some people who have really strong feelings for someone and mistake it for love, and then like somebody else said in this thread find someone they really do love later in their life and find out that what they felt before wasn't what they thought. And of course there are the people who throw the word around when ever they please and don't even think twice about it, but they aren't always teenagers, although alot of young people do it.
You can't really say what 'love means' though, at least I can't anyway. It may even be different for difererent people, I don't know.

good god why did so many people lose it so young?
when I was 16 I'd only ever kissed a boy and thats it!
When I lost my virginity I was 2 weeks away from being 17. We werent going out, I'd only known him 3 weeks, I didnt love him and I didnt trust him so it wasn't a good idea really. But as it happens, after we slept together we kept in touch and have become really good friends. So I dont regret it.
My last boyfriend lost his virginty to me and he was 19 - I thought that was really respectable.
