What about the 11 million children die of starvation every year? Abuse in Burma? The Darfur conflict? We know that shit is going on, we don't have to be reminded of it every day on the news. It is documented well enough.
No one is saying Heath Ledger is more important than Pvt. Ryan who got blown into bits by a roadside bomb, or little Ahmed who is living in poverty, while his parents are brutalised by militants - but millions of people have a connection to Heath. He isn't just another anonymous statistic, we saw him on screen, he connected with people.
That is the key difference here.
He was a human with friends and family too, just because he is a celebrity doesn't make him unworthy of a news story.

It's not a problem. This "peace keeping" act that the US government is trying to pull is ridiculous. They pulled a country apart and turned it into a bloody mess. Now they realized that the middle east was MUCH better off before the US got involved and they're going "Shit, now we have to try and fix this shit"
It's tired and ridiculous and frankly I don't give a shit anymore. I don't sign flags that get passed around the supermarkets here in Canada so that we can "send support to our troops." I don't attend the support rallies, or hang a stupid magnet on my car or tie a yellow ribbon around a tree on my lawn because I think that the US and Canadian governments are idiots. The best support we'd be giving our troops is BRINGING THEM HOME.
That said, One, I totally agree.
