“Find Me Guilty” is a great dramedy that proves that Vin Diesel CAN act.

“Find Me Guilty” is based on actual events. It is the story of a mobster named Jack DiNorscio (Vin Diesel), who along with his Mafia family and associates is faced with a series of charges. Jack has the option to stand trial or rat out his family and associates. Jack decides not only to stand trial but to defend himself without a lawyer. Jack’s trial becomes the longest Mafia trial in U.S. History. An interesting and sometimes funny movie ensues…

My biggest shock coming out of the theater tonight is the fact that I now have to admit that I liked a Vin Diesel movie. Not only do I have to admit that but I have to admit that the man can actually act and I have a new found respect for him after seeing “Find Me Guilty”. This is what I love so much about Independent films; they can take the biggest Hollywood superstar who everyone would think is just about looks and turn him or her into a great actor. It happened with Charlize Theron, Jamie Foxx, Matt Dillion, Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon and now Vin Diesel.

“Find Me Guilty” is a very enjoyable movie from the very start to the very end. The performances are top-notch. The directing is solid and the story is not only interesting but involving. What surprises me the most about this movie is the fact that it’s doing so poorly at the box office. Granted it was only in limited release but why isn’t anyone watching this film? You would think with a big name like Vin Diesel in it, people would come to the theater to see what it’s about yet so few have heard or seen this little gem.

The movie does a nice job of providing both drama and comedy. It’s a very nice mix that allows the audience to take the film seriously when need be but light hearted enough at times to enjoy themselves. Another thing this film does very well is developing the characters. As the film goes on you begin to like Jack and understand where he is coming from. You feel bad for him, you laugh with him, and you are won over by his charm. The film does an excellent job at creating a likable character that seems so innocent. It’s amazing how well Vin Diesel pulled that off.

I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised by how good this film is since the man who directed this film is a Hollywood legend. The man I am talking about is Sidney Lumet who has created in my opinion some of the best films ever made including “Dog Day Afternoon”, “12 Angry Men”, “Serpico”, and “Network”. Not to mention that Mr. Lumet also co-wrote the film. I think this man’s eye for talent is impressive not to mention the fact that he is one hell of a director. Any man who can turn Vin Diesel into a respectable actor deserves a pat on the back. This is another one of Lumet’s films that will probably be a cult classic in the years to come.

So in conclusion, I can honestly say I really enjoyed “Find Me Guilty” and not only did it prove me wrong about Vin Diesel but it entertained me and kept my full attention during its entire running time. This is a great court movie which should be seen by so many yet so few have actually had the pleasure of seeing it. If this movie is playing by you I highly recommend that you see it on your next trip to the cinema. For all those who can’t see it in the theater, be sure to check it out on DVD when it’s released. It’s definitely worth a look and in my case it will be one that will be added to the DVD collection.

MovieManMenzel’s final rating for “Find Me Guilty” is an 8/10. A great performance by Vin Diesel that almost allows me to forgive him for making movies like “The Pacifier” and “Fast and The Furious”
