The Abstinence Teacher which is based on a not yet released novel by Tom Perotta. The husband and wife directing team Jonathan Dayton and Valarie Faris were the ones who made this summer’s sleeper hit Little Miss Sunshine and have now signed with Warner Independent pictures to direct The Abstinence teacher. Tom Perotta novels have been turned into movies in the past including such hits as Election and Little Children. The plot for the Abstinence Teacher follows a woman who works as a sex-ed teacher in Middle America where her liberal views of teaching sometimes conflict with the conservative values that govern that region. The teacher however then falls in love with the school’s born again Christian soccer coach. Sounds like an interesting premise to me. Dayton and Faris are rumored to be getting some Oscar attention for this work on Little Miss Sunshine and author Tom Perotta is working on the screenplay for Abstinence teacher at the moment. There is no cast or time for filming as of yet but stay tuned because as soon as news breaks I shall report it.
