Martin Scorsese tries something new.

For years Martin Scorsese has been making some of the best films in history from Goodfellas to The Departed, he has definitely earned himself a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Well now it seems that Scorsese is going to be trying something completely new. He is doing to be directing a kid’s movie. That’s right Martin Scorsese is set to direct The Invention of Hugo Cabret which is based on a children’s novel by writer Brian Selznick.
While the critically acclaimed director has never directed a children’s movie a day in his life, he has done some voice work for the animated feature Shark Tale which was released a few years back. The new film will be released by Warner Brothers and will be produced by Graham King the same man who produced the Departed.
The novel tells the tale of a 12 year old boy who is living in a train station at the turn of the 20th century. His father who was a museum curator died but not before he shows him the last and latest discovery which is a robot sitting at a desk waiting to deliver a very important and maybe life altering message. The problem is that can’t turn the robot on. The little boy becomes obsessed with trying to solve the mystery of his father’s memory to find out what secret the robot has stored.
The film will be written by John Logan who was also the writer of The Aviator. Right now there is no set release date for any new Scorsese project since he has stated he won’t decide what his next film will be until after the Academy Awards. However, it is rumored that he has several films on his plate including the Departed 2, Last Duel, Silence, and now Hugo Cabret.
