Even though I felt that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was a bit of a let down compared to the original, I guess that didn’t stop the film from breaking all kinds of records over the weekend. The sequel to the 2003 hit has officially became one of the biggest movies to ever open in a theater. In the United States, Dead Man’s Chest opened with a 132 million dollar weekend box office breaking many records in US history. The first record the film broke was the most money ever made in a single day. The film grossed 55.5 million on Friday alone. The next record it broke was fastest movie to make 100 million dollars which basically happened in 2 days. Dead Man’s Chest also helped set a new box office record making the entire weekend box office to gross over $209 million. If that’s not crazy enough the film also broke records on movie ticket websites like Fandango and Movietickets.com which averaged about 10 tickets per second. And to top everything off the film also broke overseas records as well. Dead Man’s Chest took in $46.6 million in seven countries including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the U.K. and Uruguay. Dead Man’s Chest was also the biggest film so far this year for the people in Britain where the film made about 25 million despite the World Cup being on. So without a doubt, Captain Jack Sparrow has some magic and despite not loving the film I been thinking about it more and more. I have come to the conclusion that it was a decent sequel that will lead to one great final film which will be released next year.
