Peter Jackson is the man who responsible for directing what is said to be one of the biggest and most profitable film trilogies in history. The franchise I am talking about is “The Lord of The Rings” which was a series of popular novels that Jackson made into a three part movie trilogy. For months now, there has been talks about that Jackson would be directing “The Hobbit” which is said to be a prequel to the “Lord of The Rings.” However just Sunday, Jackson himself said that he was told by New Line Cinema that they would no longer require him to work on the film. At this point I wonder if its about the amount Jackson was asking for to director or if his budget was just to high for New Line to handle.
New Line is said to be looking to hire another filmmaker who will fill Jackson’s shoes in directing “The Hobbit.”
According to Jackson though the reason why he was canned from directing was because of a still unsolved lawsuit which Jackson filed against New Line Cinema back in June of 2005. He stated that the studio had committed fraud by reporting the revenue for the first Lord of the Rings film. This whole thing resulted in Jackson being underpaid millions of dollars who directing the trilogy.
Many say that they thing the reason why New Line dropped him from making “The Hobbit” was because they were hoping it would make Jackson drop or settle the lawsuit which Jackson has been rumored to have suggested the documentary “Ringers.”
In a brief statement from Jackson he has stated that he didn‘t want this project to be out of his hands but because of how New Line is handling this situation he has no choice as a creative filmmaker but to let the dream of directing “The Hobbit“ go and move onto bigger and better projects.
