Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest Producers are being sued

Well as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest continues to break records (it just broke the record for the biggest Monday ever in ticket sales) the producers of the film actually have some negative press to handle. No it’s not about the mediocre reviews the film got but the producers are now being sued because a screenwriter by the name of Royce Mathew claims that the entire idea for the franchise was his. Mathew claims that he created a screenplay as well as drawings for a project entitled Supernatural Pirate Movie and now believes that his ideas have been stolen and turned into a big budget blockbuster. This guy also claims that the pirate ship he was going to use in his project was the Black Pearl which as most know is the name of Captain Jack Sparrow’s ship. To top it off Royce also says that he created lead characters with the same names including Will Turner and Elizabeth. The funniest thing about this whole story is that according to movie websites the guy never wrote a screenplay before and was only a cast member on a lot of B movies which no one has ever heard of. However, Royce insists that he had registered the drawings along with his screenplay at the US Copyright office and is now on his way to suing not only The Walt Disney Company but Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Touchstone, and Jerry Bruckheimer himself stating that the movie bosses had stolen his ideas has a so called blueprint for both of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. I think this guy is just a screenwriter who hasn’t had much success and is now trying to cash in on someone else’s fame. It should be interesting to see how this case ends.
