Problems with Halo: The Movie

This is some really shocking news at least to me but it turns out that Fox Studios as well as Universal have decided not to finance the Halo: the movie which is based on the ever so popular Xbox game. This decision just happened late last week however there are still no production delays. The reason why the two studios backed out is still unclear but most think its because the budget which was suppose to be $135 million was actually too much for a film by first time director Neill Blomkamp. There is also disputes over profit participation. The problem lies that Fox and Universal were suppose to pay Microsoft 5 million on October 15th for the rights to the Halo script. But before they confirmed the deal both Fox and Universal asked Microsoft and Peter Jackson to reduce their profit participation. And according to recent reports this didn’t happen which is why the two major studios backed out of the film. The question of how this film remains in production is probably a good one to ask at this point since it has lost its financing however with Peter Jackson being on board and seeing how much money he has made from the Lord of the Rings Franchise and King Kong, I can totally see how he has enough to keep this project going. It also turns out that some of the pre-production work is being done at Jackson’s Weta Workshop. Microsoft is currently looking for new people to help finance the film because for some reason Microsoft doesn’t have enough money itself to put out the film since they are the richest company in the world! But it is said that Microsoft is already in talks with other production companies for them to back the film even though when the idea was originally brought up most companies backed away since as history shows us video game movies don’t generally do well.
