I personally did not know there was going to be a live action Speed Racer flick until just a few hours ago. It seems that the Speed Racer film has already been in talks for several months now because the film will begin filming in the summer. The film will be directed by the Wachowski Brothers, the guys who brought us V for Vendetta and The Matrix Trilogy. Majority of the cast has already been chosen as well. The film will star a pretty solid cast consisting of Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer, Christina Ricci as Speed’s girlfriend Trixie, along with John Goodman and Susan Sarandon on board playing roles not yet announced to the world. The only character that seems to be missing so far is the villain known as Racer X. The film was also written by the Wachowski brothers and the film will be released by Warner Brothers. Joel Silver will be helping the brothers produce the film and the film is scheduled to open in May of 2008.
