This film adaption of C.S Lewis's timeless classic is the latest magical fantasy film following in the footsteps of films such as Harry Potter and the Lord Of The Rings. The story revolves around the four Pevensie children Peter (William Moseley), Edmund (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell) and Lucy (Georgie Henley), who have been evacuated from their homes during the Blitz of WW2 to the home of the eccentric Professor Kirke, played by a convincing Jim Broadbent. While playing a game of hide and seek in the massive manor of the professor the four Pevensie children stumble across a large wardrobe which transports them to the magical world of Narnia Although not all is well in Narnia as it is within the cruel and veeeery cold grasp of the White Witch who has cast a never ending winter over the land. After being taken in by a couple of talking beavers- voiced by Ray Winstone and Dawn French, who have great chemistry together- the four children are told of a prophecy in which two Daughters of Eve and two Sons of Adam are to defeat the White Witch (played by a chilling Tilda Swinton) and free Narnia. With guidance from the Lion and leader of the good people, Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson), the four Pevensie children prepare for the final battle to decide the fate of Narnia.
At the first hint of this film being made i thought "Oh no why!?" but i must admit this is one hell of a film. The childrens performance is great, especially from the little Georgie Henley who plays Lucy, her scenes with Mr Tumnus the Faun (James McAvoy) are fantastic. There is a slight lack of action for the beginning of the film but the adventure and magical dialogue keeps your focused and entertained. As for the final battle that im sure more than myself was yearning to see it wasnt what people may have expected but still delivered a satisfying and pacing finale.
In conclusion this first installment in The Chronicles Of Narnia is an enjoyable family film and an overall good start to the series, roll on the sequel!!!
