Uneasy feeling about the Bruno film
Well even though Borat is still doing very well at the box office and has now officially passed the $100 million mark in the United States this past weekend, it seems that Universal may be having cold feet about the film being a one hit wonder. I kind of have to agree I think the reason this did so well was the fact it was different from various films and if they decide to make this type of movie into its own little genre it will kill any creativity that Borat has. Well Universal has stated to have been feeling a little buyers remorse this week because they already agreed to pay funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen $42.5 million to make the follow up to Borat which is be about his other alter ego Bruno who is a gay Austrian fashion designer.
According to the LA times the studio is already worried since Borat had so many lawsuits filed again the Fox which is the studio that released Borat and now worry about the possibility that Baron Cohen might be so well known that he will be unable to actually dupe people into being interviewed without being recognized. I still have many debates with people about how much of the Borat movie was staged and how much was real. I think most was acted out but seemed realistic. How someone can think this fake character can go around and just fool everyone is a little absurd even though people are pretty dumb sometimes.
It will be interesting to see what happens to Cohen’s career after all the Borat hype dies down. It will also be interesting to see if the Bruno film will be as success as Borat would say. I guess its all a matter of time before we know for sure.
