Sopranos Cast Demands Wage Increase

One of my favorite television shows is the HBO series The Sopranos. The show is coming to an end next year however a lot of the cast members involved are demanding a pay raise. The show is literally one of HBO’s most money making programs and the show’s bosses make a lot of money on reruns and the DVD sales. The cast making the demands for higher pay includes Jamie Lynn Sigler, Robert Iler, Steven Van Zandt, Lorraine Bracco and a few other cast members. The shows final season is suppose to begin shooting next month and all the cast members listed are demanding to get their wages doubled or they will walk out on the show. HBO is only offering the actors a fraction of their demands and may have to write characters out of the series if they don’t settle. I don’t understand why HBO would deny them pay since the show will only have an estimated 6-8 episodes before the show is officially over. In a recent article in the New York Post, a source tells the newspaper, "It's coming down to the wire. HBO just doesn't want to pay. No one has deals and they're very far apart. David Chase has tried to help the actors, but even his pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The guys want a new deal to happen. These are the last eight episodes, and the money is going to be coming in for HBO for years to come. But the actors get no residuals - and they want to be compensated. They're being treated like dog shit." When a spokesperson from HBO was contacted to speak on behalf of the network, he refused to comment about the low pay.
