Why Dave Chappelle really left his beloved series, Chappelle’s Show

Dave Chappelle has just recently told the press the real reason why he walked away from his beloved comedy series Chappelle’s Show last year. Chappelle has cited the reason behind his walk-out was because of racial prejudice. Chappelle made huge headlines as well as shocked millions of fans last May when he quit his show on Comedy Central during the 3rd season, which cost him a 50 million dollar contract. Then Chappelle disappeared to South Africa where he said he had gone to “purify himself” and “do some soul searching” because he was unhappy with the way the show was going and wanted to do something different. Chappelle has told Esquire that “the bottom line was white people own everything and where can a black person go o be himself or say something that’s familiar to him and not have to explain or apologize? I feel like I was really pressured to settle for something that I didn’t necessarily feel like I wanted. The thing about show business is that, in a way, it forces dysfunctional relationships in people.”
Personally I never thought Dave Chappelle was all that funny. After reading this and then thinking about how Dave Chappelle let Michael Gondry make a film about him called “Block Party” just makes me want to question what is really going on in Chappelle’s head. Maybe the man has really lost it. Who knows, I guess only time will tell.
